I thank everyone in advance. I got the brake bands moved over and assembled in my wet deck 14a. The manual shows the install instructions but not the adjustment procedure. I do have a operation and maintenance book but it's for the older dry steering version. I am wondering what the procedure is to adjust the front and back adjusters for the brake band. Also I don't think I noticed any support bolt underneath like the dry machine shows in the book. Is there a specific way or just tighten up evenly to keep the band centred? Cheers. B

Set up and adjustment of wet brakes is a little more complicated then the dry version.
No support screw under the brake band is a direct indicator of wet brakes.

Notice the springs on OM's diagram, they support the weight of the band and keep it from dragging on the drum same as the bottom bolt on a dry deck. There are total of 4 per side, although I've seen 14a's run without them.

Thanks gents. I do have the manual just as you supplied Old Magnet. Thanks for the input. I am wondering though about the adjuster screws that are one at the front and one at the rear of each band. I suppose you adjust them up evenly? Bring both up tight and back off a prescribed amount. I guess what I am asking is what is the tightening procedure on the wet deck. I have a small operation booklet but it is for a dry deck machine which describes the tightening process. There is only one adjuster in the dry deck machine. The wet deck would mean adjusting both evenly I suppose.

I don't have the adjustment instructions either. My M & O manual is form 31390- revision#7 so maybe a revision 8 or above would cover it.

adjust the rear screw out all the way and use the front one to tighten the brake up all the way then back off 6 clicks when you run out of adjustment on front screw then start to use the rear one with limted use should last a long time. make sure to use the right oil for a brake compartment.

Thanks Razz. Now the dumb questions. When you say "click" does this mean turn? I don't think I noticed any click or notch. I think the adjusters just thread smooth to lift the brake band at the front and rear. What would be the right oil? Gear oil like 75-90 or something lighter like straight 10 weight. B

should feel a click when you start to back off the adjuster check the book for the right oil I think it is 30 wt but has to be ok for brake lineings a no no on 80 90 it will ruin the lineings.

Wet brake linings are different than dry linings. Current recommendation for oil would be SAE30 TDTO (TO-4) spec.
Viscosity between 80-90 wt and SAE 30 is not that much different.

30 weight or 80-90 might be a bit think for you in the yukon, 10 weight might be better. depends when you are going to use it the most, if your using it primarily in the summer than the 30 weight would be good, if you are going to use it all winter, you might want a bit lighter oil.
