Hi all, I need to pick up a 5U rear end with undercarriage/tracks but no engine/radiator/fuel tank.
Please confirm the overall width is 5' 6" same as the 5J, overall length 8' 11" (although this has no engine so it'll be shorter than that - a bit longer than the track length).

What would the weight be with no blade or equipment, no engine/radiator, no fuel tank - basically the transmission back, and the undercarriage/tracks? I'm guessing around 4000#?

I'd tried to find this information with search - I got the specs for the 5J but couldn't find the corresponding 5U info so apologies if it's already there.

If the pads are the same width, it would be so close to the 5J you would have to squint to see it.

You could put that on a U-Haul trailer provided the track pads fit between the fenders.

Heh, I looked at uhaul - they have a 6x12 internal dimensions that's only good for 2600#, and a "car trailer" that's good for 5900#, but they want to see the car on it. Amazingly, they did not have an option online to select a 1950 model year Caterpillar D2! Still can't believe it ; )
I'm hoping that it will work out to borrow a member's gooseneck but if I wanted to wing it with the uhaul, I wanted to check that it would fit.
Dan, thanks very much for the offer! I'll probably go local because I'm not a fan of long distance (more than 30 minutes : ) driving but much appreciated in any case.
I should remember to go over the scales and see just what it weighs.

Neil,

We have a truck rental outfit out here - Penske. Don't know if they are back there or not. There used to be Ryder back there. Anyways, I can get a F-550 with a 16' flatbed and hydraulic liftgate for $95/day and $0.29 per mile. You would have to figure out the loading/unloading and a loading ramp/forklift on each end. Also, the Big Tex dealer here in S CA will rent a large equipment trailer if you give them enough time to schedule it.

Hi Jan,
I checked out Penske too and see that they have a bunch of stuff to hire. Tim, one of our local members, is graciously lending me his trailer so I'm all set - 14k gooseneck so there's plenty of capacity.
