Good morning
Just bought a Cat motorgrader - old timer. Serial nr 3U2698.
Is there a place where I maybe can get more info [technical specs, etc etc] re this machine?
Or maybe a manual of sorts?
Thank you

Welcome to ACMOC rvdcolf. There is a ton of talent on this site that will be happy to help you out. First off, if you go to your profile and complete it with your town or general area there is probably some club members in your area to connect up with. E-bay is a good source of manuals. You may have to watch it a bit but they show up quite regularly. You may post in the For Sale/Wanted forum also for the manuals you need. Include the serial number when you do so. Of course we all want to see pictures. Be warned that it is now to late for you. You have Yellow Fever and it is incurable. Once you buy a old Cat product this you will find you need another, and then another. You can never get over it. The only relief is to buy another Cat for a fix.

Edit. You will want manuals for sure. These are tough old machine that run forever if properly used. There is however some simple procedures to follow when starting, using, and shutting down that can be hurtful to the machine if not done correctly. The books spell them out very plainly.

Thanks everyone for the 'wellcoming' note.

After searching around, I did find manuals for the grader - at www.SSBTractor.com. Very nice site.

Glad you found the proper manuals. They will pay for themselves many times over. That is a nice looking 112. It looks like it was well cared for. On another note I guess it was a bit of a stretch when I said we probably have members near you. I had to look up Namibia to see where it was. We do have at least one other member in South Africa but I'm not sure where. Is there lots of Cats in your area?

Like you said - the manuals proofed to be of GREAT value! There are a lot of CAT's around, but most of them newer models [most of our roads are gravel and need to be maintained on a regular basis]. Seems very difficult to get someone to ask advice - so at present I'm just feeling my way around. Got it started last weekend, but at present having a problem with pony engine. Not starting at all - seems to be an ignition problem - no spark at the plug. Changed the plugs [actually not sure if I am using the right spark plugs - advice will be appreciated]. Next option will be to install new spark plug wires?

Shouldn't hurt to replace the plug wires but it is vital that they are solid core (copper ideally - not sure if aluminum is kosher but someone will know) wires, not resistor-type or carbon-core. Also since you're going to the auto shop : ), pick up a new condensor for the mag, and set the gap about 020-ish - someone on here will know the exact gap.
