I'm looking at replacing the lip seals in the main pumps on my 225. The parts books shows the seals as 9J8757. The local CAT dealer quoted 1U1655 seals at $24.19 each. That price seamed very high for a lip seal. Googling I found a CTP brand seal part #1U1655 on eBay, Amazon etc for between $7-$8 each.

Is anyone familiar with CTP stuff? http://www.costex.com/content/products/seals-gaskets.php

I'm wondering if the CAT dealer is marking up a CTP seal, or if the one they have is actually a higher quality seal?

If I do an interchange search on the NAPA website, the seal I come up with is this one: https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NOS19206/NOS19206_0200604520?interchange=1

The NAPA price is even higher than the CAT dealer.

I guess I want to buy the cheaper seals, but don't want in inferior Chinese product.

Does CAT actually manufacture their own seals?

I looked on SKF seals interchange http://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/popup_parts_lookup_457012.htm. It says CR#19206 seal is replacement. Should be able to get at any parts supplier, farm equip. dealer etc.

This is one area where I would buy the genuine part, it si true that Cat do not make their own seals, but they are made to a specification and quality required by Cat, and if it means wasting many $$ worth of oil if it fails, it is not worth taking the chance.

Chicago Rawhide makes good seals in my experience. If your sealing surface is good shape and you know they don't have terrible run out on your shafts, I wouldn't be afraid to use them.

Hi Team,
from memory the seals in question are made with the brown Viton type rubber to resist heat and hold against the hydraulic tank working pressure.
Speed-i sleeves can be used to restore the worn shaft seal runs. If the wear grooves are deep you can fill them with epoxy, like JB Weld, and re-machine the run true again before fitting the sleeves--an air void under the sleeve can allow the seal lip to crush the very thin sleeve into the grooves lessening the effectiveness of the sleeve, also the air is not a good conductor of heat and we saw some burnt seal lips and sleeves from lack of heat transfer away from the hard working lips and sleeve surfaces.
Hard chrome on the seal run is another repair option.
Also saw metal spray used and then the sleeve fitted.
