I have a older 953 SN 76Y00907 that was working fine 4 months ago and when I started it up today the right steering brake will only slow the right track down. It won't stop it or reverse it. The left steering brake works fine. I'm not sure where to start looking as I've only owned this for 7 months and have no experience with this type of loader (all my other loaders are newer, smaller and joystick controlled). Any help as to where to start looking and what to check would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

Your machine has a hydrostatic transmission, there are no steering brakes as such the only brakes are parking brakes which engage when the transmission lever is in park, the centre pedal is depressed, or the engine is off, does the machine track in a straight line ? Does it push OK in a straight line ? the first things to check would be the linkages between the pedals and the transmission case.

There are no steering brakes on a 953, the whole system is governed by drive pump output, the first thing to do is check that all the linkage from the control pedals down to the box is absolutely free and there are no stones or other debris jammed in it.

I checked the linkage. I noticed the left peddle pushes up on another lever behind it when you depress it. The right peddle is close to it but doesn't engage it. It looks like there may have been a bolt in it that fell out.
I've attached a picture of the linkage.

Thank you again for your help.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
