I pretty much sat on my backside all winter. No snow to blow or to ride snowmobile on. Didn't have much to do. Today I fired up the 7U D4 and started moving soil to get at the sand base as I have mentioned in prior post. I was on it about 2 hours. LOL that's a lot of work running that old thing! I've got an area pushed out 3 blades wide and about 35 feet long 3 feet deep. Man my body is reminding me that I haven't done to much and I'm 60 years old! Last dozer I ran was a D8K power shift. Wasn't nearly as much work IIRC!

Hi, Oldtanker.
Sixty?????????????????????? Spring chicken. LOL. There is an old, old saying that has possibly been around for long enough for there to be a grain of truth in it ~ ~ ~ "Use it or lose it."

Other than that, I will grant you that a 7U D4 does not match a D8K powershift for ease of operation but there is a difference between working WITH it and 'fighting' it. Then again, one day you might get to operate a tiller-controlled diff steer Cat dozer and that will likely have you declaring the D8K hard to operate - - - at least once you get it sorted out. LOL.

Glad to hear you survived the winter.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Yea right! Keeping in mind that I'm an old soldier not an operator you really think I'm going to show off my workmanship until I get the hang of it? May try to get a picture from a distance far enough away that my incompetence isn't so glairing! Just gotta figure out how to post one from my IPhone.

Heck I been sucking it up for the last 20 years with knee, back and neck problems! Now I just added a bunch of sore muscles! Figured you guys would get a laugh out of it!

The 60 thing bit some as I am 60 also and for some odd reason seem to still work 7 days a week, I don't care much for early starts although I get up at 5.30 am every day, just a few years ago I had a pal of mine give a hand stripping a gearbox out of a Moxy 6x6 dump truck, it was Snowing hard and bitter cold, I looked over at my pal and asked him if he was O.K. he looked at me with a smile and said "top Stuff" he was 76 at the time, so I hope I can get along as well as he managed, David my pal has slowed up a tad now that he is knocking on 80 but he is still like a razor in the mind.

Hi, Walt D73T.
You have a couple on me but I can't see what all these spring chickens are complaining about. They've still gotta live long enough to get to be as old as either of us. LOL.

Just my 0.02.

LOL not really complaining, more of making an observation about how much work those old things are to operate compared to newer equipment. Heck right after I made the original post my BIL called wanting to know if I could put in a little field work for him. So from a few minutes after 6 to about 10 last nite I was chisel plowing for him. Yup suspension seat, AC, radio, drink holder!!!!!

Good to know the BIL could could put you in the easy chair for a day of rest.

I am the same vintage and getting going after some major repair work has been better than I hoped because the old pain is gone. But makes it easier to feel pain in other places now. Hope this repair lasts even though the Doc forgot the grease fitting.

I can not remember his name but I really admire the elderly fellow from down under that still does it all barefoot. There was some pictures a while back.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
