There was little difference between the 966B and 966C, the B had the 4.5" bore engine and the C had the 4.75" bore D333C/3306.

966B (75A) 1963-68 uses the D333aT (4-1/2" bore)
966B (76J) 1968-80 uses the D333cT (4-3/4" bore) until 76J7946 then uses the 3306T with sleeve metering.
76J1063-up has flow amplified steering.
Both are articulated steering.

I think the B model had a two speed ps trans next to the seat and forward reverse shifter on the steering columb(sp?). The C model had three speed ps and forward reverse all on the columb.

Hi Team,
I believe as well as the Trans gear lever change and other mods mentioned above, the C had a Hydraulic Oil Cooler fitted.
It was a mod I was going to mention to Cat of Australia Engineers when I came home from Nam as we used to often get the hydraulics boiling when working hard in the USA Engineers quarry loading over large ( for a 966) USA Engineers dump trucks with blast material out of the face or loading our Mark 5 International 5 yard tip/dump trucks with 3" minus from the crusher stock pile.
I was pleased to see that our first New Equipment stock C had a cooler fitted.
Often saw a blue tinge on the tilt rods and the rain, at times, would seem to sizzle on the cylinders and rods.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
