I have a D4D 78A with a tired bottom. I found an HT4 Trackson parts tractor with a good undercarriage. My question is: What will fit on the D4D? Sprockets, rails, rolls, idlers?
The rails on my D4D has 1.99" dia. bushings and 9/16" pad bolts - is the HT4 the same? Will the D4 pads fit the HT4 rails?
Can I swap the sprockets, and if not, could I cut and weld the HT4 sprocket rims to the D4D spokes?
The D4 is just used around the farm, no more than 50-75 hours a year, so it is difficult to justify the price of a new U/C.
Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Scott

i wonder too? do u have a five roller frame on the 4d? would the frames be to long if the 4 roller frame tractor have a blade on it? here's ht4 tracks with oil pan i got for sale. i wonder if anyone replaced u series 4 roller frames with ht4 5 roller frames. is it even possible?

shoe bolt head is 3/4" , i can't get to bolt diameter.

Mike,

My D4D has a 5 roller bottom with rock (dirt) guards. If your pad bolts have a 3/4" hex, I would assume they are 1/2". Apparently, pad bolt size is one of the many changes Cat made to the D4 chains over the years. I'm hoping that some of the experts on this board can outline the other differences in these undercarriages.

Not the same. Although the track pitch is the same the D4 bushings are 2.0" diameter, the D4D's are 2.125". Sprocket on the D4 is 27 tooth, the D4D is 29 tooth. Different sprocket diameter. Rollers are the same, front idlers will interchange but use different bearing blocks.

ag-mike,
D4 (not D4D) and HT4 is the same stuff. 5-roller frame on a D4 comes from loaders.

Thanks, Magnet. That clears a lot up.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
