Can anyone help me with the timing on my 1928 2ton Holt/Best caterpillar tractor. There are 3 punch marks on the large cam gear(on the front of the head) and one punch mark on the gear that goes to the magnito
. Which mark do I use or does it matter?

Hello Larry, I've got a two ton book that shows the gear train timing. I'll get a photo for you when I get in from the shop tonight.

Hi Larry,
welcome to the BB.
To time the cam simply turn the engine to No's 1 &4 to Top Dead Centre (pistons up), rotate the cam until the rear cam is pointing straight upwards (No4 cyl. valves will be rocking and No1 valves fully closed with its cam facing straight down) and then fit the cylinder head.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
