Hello all. I'm having a recurring problem with a track pin. This pin is a bit short, does not protrude completely through inside of tread plate linkage. I had barely tacked it in place and it's worked ok for a while. Now the tack has come loose and it's worming out while being used again.. Does anyone have a master pin for a 1952 D7 3T # 20616? I'd like to not tack again and get fixed proper. Thanks for any input..

First we need to know the track link number and are you looking for the master link pin or regular pin.

I think this is the link used to service or take track apart. All the rest of the links still have cat yellow on them and look the same. This pin looks different and isn't quite as long as the rest. I haven't noticed (or looked) for co relating numbers on this .. My manual says the master pin is a 2H3005 and the regular links are 6B5882.. Are those the numbers needed? Thanks Old Magnet

6B5882 is the common standard pin to all.
Master pin is where you need the link number,
Could be 8M7288, 4H6743, 8H4263, 2H3005.
That's probably why you have a miss match.

My manual covers the D7 ,, serial #'s 3T20000 to 3T28058 and says the master pin is the 2H3005. My # is 3T20616 so the 2H3005 appears to be what I'm needing if anyone has a lead on one.. Thanks again Old Magnet...

Hi JohnnyJ,
as OM said, we need the Actual link part number as cast into the side of the track link now fitted to your machine.
There have been numerous upgrades to the undercarriage over the years and your Parts Book likely differs to what is Actually fitted to your unit right now.
As OM said, the pin in there may be the right one as per the Parts Book but likely does not suit the now fitted links.

From memory, as the Horse Power increased upgrades were made to the link pin boss length to stop the pins coming loose and walking out.
To get a definitive answer for you we need the actual now fitted link part number or you will likely spend dollars an a wrong pin that will fail yet again.

If the pin bores were worn, we used to fit standard pins ( non Master Pin) that are a thou or two tighter--bigger diameter --to help retain the pin in the worn bores.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

If it does turn out that the 2H3005 is correct it has been replaced by a 8H4326 or 9H6679.

Thanks EDB and OM.. I was able to see some identification on the side of all the track links which are holding the pins .. There is a R with a circle around it followed by 151864 and a space and what then looks like the word 'seal' .. Can you tell if this matches the specs we've discussed for the master?? .. Again thanks..

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
