Hi gang, I'm going to go look at this D-8, maybe next week. I know hardly anything about 8's. I can tell that the turbo has been added, and that it is a direct drive model. The starting engine has me puzzled, the carby in the picture looks like it belongs on an older model. Also what do you suppose the Cat and scraper weigh, ballpark. Cat has been sitting for 9 years supposedly. Any and all info is welcome and appreciated.

Sorry the pictures are so small, that's how they came to me. I'll take some better ones if I go to look at it.

Hi, Bruce P.
The D8 appears to be a 14A and you are right about the turbo being an addition. It also has the older style sprockets and shorter links which are made of OzDozer's legendary 'Unobtainium' these days. If it needs track work, you would likely have to convert to the later sprockets and longer links. From what I could see from the 'thumbnails', it looked to be in pretty fair shape.

The scraper? At first glance, I thought it might be a Bucyrus Erie. How-wevver, after a second look. I yain't sure.

What's that strange white stuff laying all over everything and obscuring the view?

A kew-ree-yuss mind would like to know.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hey Team,

Not enough pictures to be sure. I'm leaning more to a 2u model. The seat and tank aren't a 14-a style. The throttle isn't a 14-a set up either. My guess is 2u model. It's gonna be Two loads of shipping.

Hi, Bruce P and Garlic Pete.
On second and closer look, Pete, you are probably right about it being a 2U, post transmission change. I had a 'New Year' phone call as I was looking at it the first time and didn't take the time to look at the in-cab or rear view photos. They both shout later 2U.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try and find out some more from the owner today.

Deas, that white stuff laying around can be aggravating at times but it makes for a nice insulating blanket for the winter wheat. Seeing that it is 1 degree Fahrenheit as I type it won't be going away any time soon, however since it is wet once it does melt I won't complain.

I'll keep you posted

The pictures are too small but would that be a Garwood scraper? Agreed both look to be in good shape. Another guess is Allis Chalmers scraper?

Nice find Bruce! Is it somewhere here in the Evergreen state? If its in SW WA I will try to go have a look for you when I get back. Don't worry, I won't be stealing it, it won't fit in my garage!

Hi Gang, so I talked to the contact person for the owner, real nice guy by the name of Joe Williams. Joe had been a SeaBee then worked for Wilbur Ellis in the area and we got to talking about different cats (of course) when Joe mentioned about being in Antarctica with a D4. So I asked Joe if he was ever around the stretch D-8s at all. "You mean the LGP's, of course, they were terrific". He asked how I knew about them, so I gave him the short version of how Glen got Mary Ann, and told him about this forum. Joe had some really interesting insight about the equipment down there. Anyways Joe said he would check out the site and I see that he has. Small world.

Now about the D8 and can. Joe thought the 8 was a 13-a and the can was a woldridge (spelling).

Gregness they are indeed in Washington but over here on the east side. About 75 miles north of me. Joe says I should make owner an offer. They were her Dads and she doesn't want to see them scrapped. I'm clueless any thoughts on a offer.
Thanks

Ok gang I got to look at the D8 today I could only look a few minutes as ny niece had a basketball game that I needed to attend. Anyway the serial is 2U 17068SP on the case and 2U something on the engine (tag was trashed). Main will turn over but the pony is stuck. rail height is 4 1/2" and they've been welded on to square up the edges. I couldn't remember how many pins you're supposed to measure over but there's 16" over three 24" over four and 32 over five. I have a 13a operator manual would this get me in the ballpark for most things?

Also there is a 9g D7 there as well, and it's turbocharged! Both engines are free but some a hole cut the core out of the radiator I'm gonna try to make a deal on both of them. Sorry no pics as the site says I'm not logged in when I go to down load them.

Yes, the 13A manual would apply. Track measurement is meaningless unless you stretch the chain. Usually by placing a pin in the sprocket and running the tractor enough to get tension. Normal measurement is over five pins.

Correct spelling/name is Wooldridge. Does sort of look like their construction but I can't say for sure.
