I have successfully rebuilt the Starting Engine, Starting Clutch (without beveling the bronze disks - as per Mr. Magnet's note), and cleaned/checked the governor...
I am into the Injector Pump, now:
Off the engine, all 4 pump units were rusted and would not move and I have removed them from the assembly.
Plungers were (all 4) stuck and now 2 of them are free and I am lubricating and moving the other 2.
Adjustment "fork" assemblies were not loosened and/or moved from their existing positions.
I plan to order 4 each "9F2392"
4F5019 (4 each) came off the pump.
4F3795 Pump Housing
I have the parts, service, and operators manuals.
I have ordered the Rack Adjustment manual - for the D series.

Should I send the assembly to someone and have the settings (adjustments of the 'forks) checked before I start re-assembly ?
Other suggestions and/or comments, please - this is my first injector pump rebuild..

I would recommend cleaning everything up, replacing seals and then reassemble and mount the fuel injection pump then do the lifter setting check/adjusting in place.

Seems you have all the literature to support the process.

What do you recommend I use for depth gauge ?
Can I make one or do you recommend the Cat tool?

Upon further reading, I see that the CAT tool is a standard 0" to 4" micrometer depth gauge.

Have not yet pulled the Fuel Transfer Pump off - any suggestions on typical replacement parts I should order for it ?
Is the 9F2392 ( x 4) the correct replacement Injector pump unit ?
And, does the injector pump unit come as a full assembly with the gear ?

Thank you, as always...

My manuals show what appears to be a starrett 440 series depth mike. Like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starrett-No-440-0-6-Inch-Depth-Micrometer-Set-in-Case-/301830723354

I believe I would get it all together and see what fuel pressure is before tearing down transfer pump. Just my thought.

Yes pump assy includes plunger and quadrant gear, keep them together as you shouldn't mix and match.

9F2392 is a valve service group, contains a new capsule and a couple of seals. It is replaced by a #6H3364 valve service group which uses a 9F4113 capsule and a couple of seals.
Your old capsule would be a 7S1059.
4F5019 is a fuel injection pump assembly and is replaced by a 8M9753.

Check the diameter of your pump plungers. 4F5019 comes up as a 7mm diameter and should be an 8mm diameter for 4-1/2" bore engine.

It appears I have an assortment of parts and pieces on this machine.
The injector pump housings (from the machine) have a cast number of 4F5019.
They are 8 mm (7.99)
Book calls for 4 each of 4F6921 (Injector Pump Assemblies)

Yes, someone has swapped plungers and barrels in the old 4F5019 housings. The 4F6921 pump assemblies have been replaced by 8M9758

William; I run a business of checking pumps, injectors, and rebuilding fuel transfer pumps. Your pumps may be good, but need to be checked for output and calibrated if necessary. Look under "Crawler Tractors, Diesel" for my labor rate. By the way, those forks are "Yokes" Bill Walter, e-mail: [email protected], Ph. 1 816 805 1834
