Hello, I just acquired a D315 power unit with a twin disc torque converter trans and reverser. I was wondering if anyone could look and tell me what year the engine is. Serial number 9s8927.

Also I can't seem to find much info on the transmission anywhere. I was curious if anyone had any or knew of a source for manuals for it, or if anyone knew anything in general about it. I know the converter uses diesel fuel instead of oil. Tag on case says model: CRR-100-32-TC-16 Spec. No. 92051

I know its a long shot, but I wonder what a setup like this could have originally been used in? The last person to use it was running a sawmill with it. I can't imagine with the transmission set up the way it is, that was its original use, but who am I to say. Currently has ~2000 hrs. on the meter. Pictures included below. I appreciate any info, Thanks!

Yep, I picked it up a couple years ago now its been I guess, how time flies. Its pretty amazing the work it will do with not even a grunt. Came pretty well tooled, bed is wore but it still puts out decent enough work for me. It was made in 1944 or 45 so its seen some years of use and abuse.

9S8927 is a 1952 model. Torque converter drive would give you a huge advantage on starting loads along with reverse feature.
Watch ebay for manual. I have that manual if you have parts questions.

Thanks OM, is there something more search friendly I can look for on the trans model instead of that long number?

No, everything in the parts book breaks down into sub assemblies. They have Cat reference numbers but refer to Twin Disc documents.

Maybe was originally out of a tug boat?

Guess it would have raw water system though. I think a sawmill could have been the original use for it.

Alright, I appreciate it OM. Yeah I wondered about it being marine use also. It is a possibility someone swapped the marine components off the engine I guess, always fun to speculate haha.
