Some people sure take chances! Probably would have made it if the air cleaner intake was higher. I wonder if the engine hydraulically stopped with water in the piston chamber casing lots of problems?

Unfortunately, they're born everyday. Nice to see that the excavator operator had enough brains to check the depth of the river before heading out.
I'll bet one thing for sure...the Cat operator doesn't own that machine!

Engine hydro-static lock is probably the only reason the engine would have stopped, of course after the fan tore a big hole in the radiator.

What dummies! The driver is lucky he did not get washed over the drop off just below his crossing.

The flood of 96 here washed away a 3cyl of my friend's. It has never been found.

Any half baked fisherman would have known that the fast water between them two big rocks would have a wash out between them. He is lucky to be alive.

Hi, Folks.
Oil Slick, thanks for posting. Reminders like this of stupid things that some people - hopefully, nobody here - sometimes do are always worth posting to encourage us to think about what we are doing.

Crawler Dollars, at least the excavator operator HAD something with which he/she could check the depth before venturing further. 'Dozer blades are not very good for that. Whether or not owned the machine might be open to debate. Necessity and desperation sometimes have people doing some odd things.

At least the excavator was THERE to perform the rescue. If it hadn't been there, the incident might have had a whole different outcome. As it was, I doubt that 'dozer operator really enjoyed his ride while the excavator was rescuing him.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

WE had some flooding in a training area at Ft Knox. We use to cross a creek at "Normans' Drift". Was about 5 yards wide and 12" deep. We went to ford it after the flooding and the water was about 10 deep (tanks were 12.5 high and could induct engine air through the turret hatches. The current was strong enough to slide the tanks sideways about 2 feet while fording. That's a 63 ton tank.

That operator is extremely lucky! Bet it was a 3rd world country. They do all kinds of high risk things in places like that.

Yep that's crazy, the operator stayed in the seat, guess he didn't have a choice.

Sad to see that white puff of smoke when the engine died

Bet he had a seat belt or he may well have washed out. He seemed to be planted pretty good. Sure was a wide blade on that Cat.

Hi, O-I-H.
Yep, seat belt for sure and that blade is an outside mounted manual angle blade, hence the width.

Cain't help wondering if there were any 'twistie-top shaped' marks on the seat cushion after the event.

Here's another 'daredevil' act:

That Mitsubishi MG330 is around Cat 12G-H size. Would YOU do it?
