Thought there may be some interest in these. A little different/better than the usual tin flaps.

Wouldn't have to worry about the wind blowing it open!
For a casting, the price seems reasonable!

Looks a lot like the aluminum caps John Deere used from the 60's into the 70's, original equipment on tractors like the 4020 & 3020...the bolt hole in the Al wore out fairly quick & they got whopper-jawed & wouldn't close. The ones they sell now for replacement are a standard steel rain cap. These would be a close match for the original if one was restoring the tractor...

Couldn't be much worse than the tin flap where one brush with a limb and it's over. I'm going to give them a try.

Now that I think about it, those aluminum jobbers were the only ones that really worked right on the 2-cyl. JD's...they were counterweighted better & wouldn't flutter like the steel ones did due to the firing order. At idle, the steel ones will drive you batty, & destroy themselves pretty quick...

Those are similar to the ones Cat offered back in 1949, page from an Ohio Machinery dealer catalog.

I have one similar that is far to complicated - it has a closure spring that attaches to a welded on bracket on the exhaust pipe itself. I contemplated re-fitting it but the spring bracket thing interfered with easily removing the hood - so I left it off. It even has some sort of gasket inside the lid to better seal the pipe from rain. It must have cost a packet to buy back in the day😊
