I had a call from Glen Thiess [Grandson of Bert ] on Friday to come down to see Him , Deanna and I went yesterday ,He wanted to discuss a few things with Us re the collection . All the Tractors and Gear including a few Threshers , Scoops and stationary Engines are going to the Ipswich Railway Museum where they will be permanently Housed. This is great Result for such a fine Collection and really a fitting Tribute for the Thiess Bros . They were undoubtedly the early Pioneers of major Construction and Coal Mining in Australia and indeed world wide . the company is still a Major operation ,But the Thiess family are no longer involved . A very interesting Book was written of the Family "The Thiess Story" of their lifetime of Work , Would make a great story for our magazine , If anyone could do a Parsees of the Book into a story for the Magazine contact Me . There are many pictures in the Book .
The collection includes some quite rare tractors ,[Out Here ] ranging from Holt 2 Ton's through to D8's including the D8 with the giant Howard rotary hoe attached , Also there are 2 imported machines , Cat 60 and a 5 Ton Holt both in magnificent Condition .To My knowledge there are only [3] 5 tons in Aust. and I believe a Military version is Coming here soon .
There is a large quantity of Bits an pieces that we are negotiating on for the Chapter and I hope to have some good news on that next Week.
Also early last week I was called to Brisbane to pick up 14 cartons of Parts books and manuals , and they had come from Thiess Holdings , and were Being thrown out and they Cover Gear from the late Forties to First of the high track D6 . Not sure what we will do with them at this point but at Least they are saved .
Bert Thiess and his Son Neil were early members of ACMOC and unfortunately both Passed away within a few Months of each other ,as the younger members weren't particularly interested or able to look after the Gear this is a great Result all around LJ

Hi, Lance.
Great stuff. Thanks for the heads up. it is also good to hear that those old parts books, etc., will be surviving for a while longer.

On the book, "The Thiess Story", the ideal person to condense it, if she is still looking down at the daisies, might be Jane Priest herself.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

It is good to hear that the grandson has some interest in seeing the collection saved. It should be a great addition to the museum. Just one more reason to visit Australia.

Hi all again, yes Deas I wonder if any one knows if Joan Priest is still around ? that book was Written about 30 years ago as I got one of the original hard back copies and that would have been in the Early eighties , I must have loaned it to someone cause I can't locate it , Probably forgot to put a Boomerang with it !! I was however fortunate to pick up a soft copy recently.
OIH , We sure will be happy to show You and Debby around When You do Finally make that Hop over the Big Pond ! guarantee You will see more than just the Thiess Collection . Allow plenty of time here , Aust. is nearly as big as USA . We are only an hour and Quarter from Brisbane international AP .so taking delivery of You is no Problem !! Cheers LJ

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
