I purchased a D7 3T Dozer and would like to adjust the engine valves. I purchased a D7 manual but when I got it out of the mail box last night I found that it has great info on the dozer but very little on the D8800 engine. I will order a engine manual but it will take a week to get it and I want to adjust the valves now. Can anyone help me with the intake and exhaust settings so I can start pushing dirt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lance

Valve adjustment, Intake and Exhaust is 0.012 hot (or 0.010 cold).
Firing order is 1-3-4-2.

the head of the valve expands when hot thereby increasing the lash.

excellent point Andrew to do these as well otherwise you might have strange tapping noises coming from the engine (as I did) making it sound like the big ends were on the way out:eyebrows:

I don't have any specific info on the D8800 valve clearance, but I always was told the standard recommendation for all CAT engines of that era was 0.010" HOT on both intakes and exhausts. The 0.012 was a preliminary setting when getting ready to run a newly repaired engine to approximate the final setting.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Tough group!!!!

Valve clearance hot, right out of the D8800 manual is 0.012 in.
0.010 cold was recommended by SJ, that's good enough for me.

Compression release clearance 0.025 - 0.030 in. again right out of the Cat manual.
