I need to find another air cleaner "Pre-Cleaner" 8B2736 for my D4 2T that sits above the hood on the aircleaner and a quick search through the local Cat Dealer parts list shows a new Cat number 130-6854 at around $88 here in Australia, and another part number 1M5984 comes up through Parts Search at Machinery Trader as an alternative for 8B2736 but I have no idea of the price yet, my always reliable Florin Tractor Parts don't seem to have anything according to Parts Search.

Can someone please enlighten me what the options are for the early D4's because $88 sounds too cheap from Cat for a proper looking original style pre cleaner with the glass jar, and just looking at some old threads I see the Donaldson 59096D discussed as a option though it is isn't the exact right size mount, only 2-1/4" instead of the 2-1/2" on the D4.
Thanks
Mike

Hi mike,
I tried to buy the glass jar a little while ago and found it to be replaced with plastic, fitted ok but just doesn't look right. I have a 2T wreck down here mostly complete, ill see if it has the pre cleaner for you.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark, Thanks for helping out, it looks like I can buy one of those new 59096D Donaldson pre cleaners out of the USA for about $55, plus freight to Oz so add another $100, but it looks to have the glass jar, I had a feeling our ACMOC President Bruce was selling the glass jars a year or 3 back though I'm not sure if they were for the D2 or the D4, the newer Donaldson is not quite the same shape as the old D4 Donaldson so I'd be interested in yours if it is still in half decent shape, my 2T will be a work tractor not a show pony.

Mark, does that 2T wreck have a decent oil manifold pipe running the length of the block supplying oil to the main bearings, my pipe has been squashed and is only about half it's original diameter and I've been offered a manifold off a earlier model D4 but I'm worried it will not fit because Cat made several changes to those oil filter towers and I assume the oil manifold mounting plate from the RD4 through 7J to the 2T, plus that manifold I've been offered to buy has had a bodgy solder repair job in the past so there are concerns it will not repair well.
Thanks
Mike

Mike, you are correct. I still have a couple of the jars. They fit the Donaldson precleaners on both the D2 and D4.

Yes Mike, that is what we are talking about, it's hard to see from 8,000 miles away but is your internal measurement of the throat around 2-1/8", because my 7J and the 2T both measure 2-1/2" external on the inlet pipe suggesting I need a 2-1/2" internal on the pre cleaner, and I reckon that Donaldson 59096D we are discussing measures 2-1/4" in the throat, looking on Fleabay it appears there are several of those Donaldson pre cleaners with jars, but maybe their 2-1/4" throat, the 59096D is the largest of that type?

Hi Bruce, Can you please confirm the throat size on your jars, if they are correct for my old girls here in Oz I might grab 3 or 4 of them because they do look better than the plastic and I can share one with my new best buddy Ol Hutchy, from memory you were not asking big money for them, we will just need to work out how to get them safely to Oz not that you will care if they break in a million pieces once the check has been cleared at the Bank, maybe they can go through Garlic Pete's Cat Export Co. shipping parts out of Ca. or through Oregon on a slow boat next year with Ol Wombat and Scott Hayes.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mark, this photo is of the oil manifold on my D4 2T I'm hoping to replace, do you have something better than that without leaks and bodgy solder welds all over it?
Thanks

Yes Darryl, that looks pretty close to 2-1/2" to me, how much did it cost to buy and bring into Oz, the Seller on Fleabay with the $A55 unit does not ship overseas so I'd need to get it sent somewhere Stateside first which adds extra cost, and I'm pretty certain his unit is only 2-1/4".

I contacted Donaldson Australia and they have just come back saying that 59096D pre cleaner is definitely not in their product list.
Thanks
