212 grader clutch help needed

Hi All,
I have a 212 1951 grader with D2 D311 engine SN 9T2490. I have a few questions on the clutch for you. 1. how do I remove old clutch disk / Hub see photos. it looks like the disk flew apart when the pilot bearing failed. 2. is it normal for the disk to have an open space? the pilot bearing and race are tore up and I need to see if any scrap metal is behind the disk and replace the pilot bearing race. 3. An internal ring gear prevents disk from just pulling out. recommendations on part are welcome.

you need to clean around the outside edge so it will come out of the teeth in the flywheel. your clutch fingers look good that is the hardest to find.

Never seen a clutch disc that looked like that, at least not intentionally anyway. No sign of rivets or holes??. Looks like it was missing some pads originally.

I think it is that there is a whole section of the clutch plate assembly missing, I was looking for the holes for the rivets as well.

Definitely an aftermarket disk in there. Lots more pads than some i have seen in other applications, but those are usually ceramic instead of the bronze? pads on that one.

The clutch disk does not engage the flywheel ring gear teeth like the D2 tractor. The pressure plate engages the teeth and is prone to sticking in the dust and oil that collects inside there when machine sits for a while. Symptoms will be slipping clutch, but linings appear to have good thickness when removed.

This is an automotive type foot clutch like a wheel tractor or truck would use and the disk should just lift out of the flywheel unless it was so large that the ring gear was installed on top of it. Definitely not the way it was done from factory.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

I don't have info on the 212 but here is some on the 112 which I believe is the same configuration. The clutch discs do not engage the flywheel teeth. The first drive plate does engage the teeth. The clutch disc should just slip out unless there is a sizing issue.

Old clutch is out and the only thing usable is the hub. fingers are all stress cracked. Centrifugal force forced the fingers into the internal ring gear. Pilot bearing pieces pretty much destroyed the disk Original PN is 5B8725 is there a generic cross for the disk or a recommendation on a shop that can build a disk from the hub and specs?

That list I posted is the sequence of replacements.
5B8725 RPB 2H0559 = 8W9315.
None appear to exist any more and are not listed in my Friction Disc specifications. An old time clutch/brake shop might be able to help you out.

Same problem on clutch fingers, no longer available. Last discussion I had a couple of years ago involving clutch information posted was the clutch fingers had to be fabricated.
