mate this is some interesting reading as far as I know welding heads can be succesful but it is a very specialized job and if the motor ever gets hot again it will open back up

No reason you can't weld it up yourself using proper procedures.. I'd figure on using valve seat insert/s if the crack migrates into the valve seat area.
I do have some ceramic fiber insulation for a blanket. It would be nice to have a total junker to practice on, both with the pins and the welding. Things like this seem to have a way getting completely ruined with one wrong twitch.
Stephen the guy that i use has ovens to preheat and then he tries to hold the temp and cool slowly Jerry Gast used a forge and coals to heat and then weld and cover in the coals to cool slowly the guy that i use is Rays crack service in Hodgenville KY he has a web site i can get his # if u want chuck
