As the title suggests I am wondering if there are any taps the same but new? When I turn the taps off I still get petrol dripping.I have stripped them down and rebuilt but can't stop them leaking.
Thanks stew

You mean fuel leaking outside, past the packing? Or leaking on down the line, and dripping fuel down to the carburetor?

Blakeystew the gent in the UK that cast manifolds for the gas cats also has cast brass fuel cocks and decompression cocks and were waiting to be machined if not already!
He's in your area and might be able to help?
My understanding is that once the ball has worn it will leak fuel no matter what!

I took my D8 8R to the recent Rocklea Truck & Machinery Show.
Started to drip at the pilot motor petrol tap.
Caused a lot of concern from people. I don't know what they expected me to do about it on the day.

Hi Stew, please ignore if this is a dumb question - did you try lapping the valve with some lapping paste? Just curious if that is a viable option.

It should not be leaking out of the carb. This means the float setting isn't right in the carb! Fix that first, then fix the fuel tap.

Jeff, Stew

On first startup of my FIFTEEN after it sits for a few months, I have gas leaking from my carb. and think the needle valve is by-passing a bit. Usually I lightly tap the carb with a screwdriver handle and it stops. Sure beats taking off the carb every time and disassembling it then reassembling it which is what I did the first few times it happened. At the moment, I am in the midst of getting the original tank with valves and tubes re-installed as I have been running it with a lawnmower tank as a temporary fix. I am hoping the old original valves will seal but one of them is on my temporary system and it leaks. I see a lot of other FIFTEENs and TENs using modern valves and hoses so maybe the original stuff is unfixable. Time will tell.

All sorted. I took both off and used o-rings. Its made them tighter to turn but I put petrol in and left taps off with no pipes on and no leaks. This carb is going to be a spare when I get a replacement.
Thanks guys.

Stew,

Interesting about using O-rings. It might be my answer.

I can get you the size if you like? I took the tap apart and put a little oil into it and pushed down and turned the tap with some plyers pushing down and kept turning it. Then 3 little o-rings and one bigger o-ring over the top. Then just tighten down slowly so tap still turns. Dont tighten too much as tap wont turn.
