If you are unable to locate main bearings I can reline your old shells and machine them to spec for you.

Hi Team,
I believe this era machine ran the thick aluminium shells, with no Babbitt, on both the rod and main bearings.

You may need to make up bronze shells and Babbitt them.

Others have machined suitable aluminium bearing material to make their own shells. I think there was some discussion before Xmas about this and it seems from the discussion that Toyota pistons are very similar metallurgy to the Cat shells???

Cheers,
Eddie B.

He contacted me today and he thinks they may be aluminium and suitable tinning solutions for aluminium to babbit are either elusive or non-existant these days. Making new shells is not out of the question.

Mr Hypile,
have you checked with Cat? I picked up some of the 030 bearings I needed from Cat, and got the rest from a couple of parts houses - they're out there. The only one I couldn't track down was the front main, so I had that journal welded back up to std and there is a healthy quantity of std bearings available

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
