I might take a ride and look at this machine in the future, looking for some help in identifying the series/year. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like a 7J series 44" gauge 1939-1942 or a 2T series 1943-1945 year.

That is a LaPlante-Choate Trailblazer!
Don't worry, there is a lot of iron in that blade!
There is lots of grouser on those pads, Idler looks pretty far back in the one angled photo!

Hi, Rjh-md.
If that is a 'LIGHT' blade, I BET you'd just LOVE a real heavy one on that same tractor. Have a look at the C-frame. I seriously doubt that many broke up under the strain of the tractor and hard work.

The lift arrangement looks a bit light at first glance but I'd suggest you not that fool you too much either.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I thought the 5T's had the larger track frame and final bearing mount?

That would be prior to 2T8270 when they changed to the large final drive hub. Most likely a 7J or 2T model.

A later 7J or early to mid range 2T. It has the governor on the back of the fuel injection pump.

Deas Plant I know the lower part of the blade looks strong ,but look at the thickness of the lever arms attached to the lift cylinders ! looks like 3/4 0r inch plate welded to the blade arms .I could forsee a lot of twisting action in the plate and welds .Be interested to see if the welds have been rewelded on both sides before . Cat blades have the links that allow for the side twisting action .
Its probably a 7J tractor I mentioned 5 T as it shows up in the serial # book with the 7J shown ,and all 3 serial # tractors 2T,5t AND 7J are close in appearance
Only one way to make sure ! get the serial 3 OFF THE TAGES !

I owned a 5J D2 that had a LaPlane Choate angle blade on it .I thought it was a very nice blade ,and it graded well .Only problem was it had a rear mounted hydraulic pump ,and when the master clutch was released ,there was no blade hydraulics ,hard to get used too!
The blade on that D4 dosen't look anything like the D2 blade
The tractor looks very nice ,may have been a farm Cat with the rear mounted PTO
Be interested to see what the hour meter reads
Maybe the pictures are deceiving on the blade .You guys like it more than I do !

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
