Well, after haveing two Dw6's for several years now i have finally decided to proceed with the restoration one of them.
I have started with the D6B 44A5751 model, i purchased this one along with a D69U Dw6 from a friend that runs a scrap yard in VA.
I believe these machines were owned by a contractor near Stuart VA that did large road projects.
After the man passed some scrap gypsies took everything to the junk yard, at least that was what i was told.

Anyway all i knew was this unit was a runner with the exception of some transmission problems.
So i checked the fluids in the engine, put some batteries in added fresh fuel hit the switch and it ran like a top!
Now on to the transmission issue, after inspection we discovered the bearing in one of the gear shafts was gone....long gone (as you can see in the pics).

So yesterday i along with my good friend Jerry (who really gets into his work, see pic) help me take the trans out and got it apart only to discover that once the bearing failed it also took out some teeth on a few gears.
One good thing about it being 4 deg out was it was easy to see if water was leaking into the rear end....yes that is a big chunk of ice being removed.

Something i would like to know from other DW6 owners is the tire size, this one has 23.5x25's

Now on for the parts search http://www.acmoc.org/bb/showthread.php?22542-WTB-D6-B-44A-Parts....if any one has what i am looking for or can make a suggestion as were to look please let me know.

I believe the old boys name was Robert that had those machines cant recall his last name but he had a whole woods full of iron when I went down there about 5 or 6 years ago maybe a little longer than that. Hope the rest got saved as well hate to see old iron scrapped when it has potential to live again! Jason

MOG5858 has one he rescued from that floodwater a year or so ago. He should be able to help out with the tire size. Have not heard from him for a couple weeks. Might be super busy at work.

The drawbar looks like it has never had a pin in it.

Dumb question of the day,how much of a 8u,9u back end is the same as the B's?????Much of it looks very similar if not the same castings as used on the earlier tractor.Would assume the gears would be different, but I don't know.

Thirty years ago I got a big surprise when I learned 3T D7 and 9U D6 had the same steering clutch ,brakes, and steering boaster. So if it looks close I ask.

Bull gears and pinions are different in 9u and D6B. Transmissions are different; mainly due to pinion brgs. BUT the gears may be the same; have never checked the gear part numbers.

while i am still searching for the correct parts book does anyone has a scan of the transmission breakdown that they can share as some of the gears that i need do not have part numbers on them. Also if possible a scan of the sterring clutches as i have them removed and would like to see what options i have in parts.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
