I used the Rustoleum Old Caterpillar Yellow in the spray can, and I think it looks good!

A few years ago I ordered the Rustoleum paint in Old Cat Yellow from HomeDepot. There was no shipping cost if it was shipped to the store. Sold in gallons or rattle cans. Color was a very good match.

Ray, what's the part # on that generator? I looked at the belt drive generator in the parts book but yours looks like a gear drive - it wouldn't happen to be the same as a D2 generator would it?

Neil, the generator PN is 2B5602, Delco-Remy model 939E, DR part number is 1858247. I do not know if it is the same for the D2. The drive gear (2B1349) on mine was in bad shape. I was able to get a used one from Wally. I also took my generator (6 Volts) to a local truck parts/supply shop and they had it rewound to give 12 volts, and installed a new 12 volt regulator. My starter is 12 volt, so now I should be all set to rumble. Now if I can just finish putting it all back together. Are you still down under, or are you back in NYS? Ray

Back in Rochester Ray, and waiting for this extreme cold to let up so I can go reassemble the 5U which is languishing in Tim's barn (and most likely totally in his way. I'm going to have to make up for that with some yard work or something : ). This snow is something - my truck tent collapsed and put a dent in the roof of the pickup, which also bent me out of shape as I didn't clean the tent enough - grrrrr, totally my fault.
On the plus side, the 5U's head has just been totally refurbished at the engine rebuilder in Batavia, my crank is ground and I have all new mains and rod bearings, new clutch, new bearings etc. for the transmission. With all that, hopefully I can get it to run. It won't steer but at least I can get it moving in a straight line so that I can start putting some heat into the steering clutches. The 3J also has a refurbished cylinder head, a new set of liners and pistons, clutch, so that'll be ready to reassemble too. I'm going to put that one in my garage at home so I can git'r'done.
That generator part # doesn't show up in my 3J1-5000 book or the 5U13237 up book. I'd be interested in the dimensions between the mounting studs to see how it compares with the 5U's generator. I've seen that triangular plate on my Twenty-Two and always thought that it would be a great location for an hydraulic pump for ag purposes e.g. lift on a set of disks

Neil, welcome back to the freezer.
If you want to put a hydraulic pump in the location of the generator you probably will have a couple challenges. First will be to find a pump with a footprint so that it will mount to the generator mounting holes, second, that it will have a shaft long enough, and third, that you can fit a generator gear (22T) on the shaft and get it lined up properly. I have not seen a hydraulic pump with the correct configuration, but there may be one out there somewhere. Why not just put a pump in the normal PTO location at the rear of the transmission?
