Does anyone know when the D8-15A series was born? I have a 15A with the serial number 1533 and was looking for some literature on it but all I have found is with a later serial number and I don't know what running change Cat made from one number to the other. What kinships does the 15A share with the 14A? are there any manuals out there?......Thanks

The 14A and 15A have a lot of parts in common. With the exceptions mostly being between the engine and the rearend (clutch, TC, transmission).

You can use 'some' final drive parts from older D-8's (1H, 8R, 2U, 13A) in your 15A final drive. The bullgear, hub, sprocket and covers will interchange.

Had a 15A many years ago but sorry, all the books went with her when I sold it.

The 14 & 15A both came out in 1955 and as Old 3T Lover said they are pretty much the same except from the engine to the steering clutches as the 14A is an oil clutch with regular trans. & the 15A has a torque convertor with a dry clutch and a different transmission.

Good Morning Redsisbest,
I got all my books at ebay. Found a brand new original Cat parts book for $9.00! Go look now. Do an ebay search under Caterpillar D8 and page down to ebay stores. There's a 15A service manual for sale. Other books come up all the time. I've got 15a763 and work the old girl a lot. It's a great machine. Just don't use the clutch to much. Snap it in and let the torque converter do the work.
