I am looking at purchasing a 1965 Oshkosh snow plow truck to use on my long farm road and maybe do some custom snow plowing. It is in good condition with only 18000 miles. It has been refitted by Oshkosh with a Caterpillar 3406A engine along with other updates. I am told this engine would have about 325 hp. I am seriously considering purchasing a Cat D7G and starting a dozing business in the spring. If I could use the Oshkosh truck to do snow work and also use to haul D7G, that would save me buying a tractor-trailer. Stats I looked up show later D7G's weigh about 42,000 lb. I believe the Oshkosh truck actually weighs more yet. I have yet to do more research to see if there would be demand in my area for more competition in dozing. I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas about this from anyone. I live in Southern Wisconsin. Thank you!

My W series Oshkosh with wing and V plow weighs in at about 32,000lbs. But it is gas. The one you are looking at is am guessing is a P model. I am guessing the P model is a little heavier and with the the Cat in it it should come in at 40,000 or better with plows.
I got to get back over your way there is a litle bar-restaurant just west of downtown that has a Friday Fish Fry. Not bad for $5.00.

Not sure of Wisconsin axle weight laws but if you are planning on using a pintle hitch type trailer I think it may be unlikely you can get it under legal weight even if you use a three axle trailer. Power wise I would not be concerned.
