For those of you from New York, Carl DeGroat, of Peterboro, Madison County, New York, was one of the wise old sages of machinery, including Caterpillar equipment. A collector of all kinds of trucks and construction equipment, he was a retired machinist. His father had been town highway superintendent, and Carl was elected to that office many years ago. He subsequently was elected town supervisor, and I think he still held that post. He had been on the school board years ago. In recent years, he ran for public offices unopposed.
He was a fine gentleman, who entertained many of us Cat collectors, and his door was always open. Affable, friendly, very very bright, an energetic eighty years and something. He will be missed.
Thanks Carl for your friendship.
