Hi. Is it possible to get new original style Cat restoration parts for equipment from the late 70s? Does Cat offer restoration parts? I've been looking, but can't seem to find anything. Thanks. Mark

My experience has been if you can get the right guy at the parts counter and have the model number and
serial number of the machine and the part number you're looking for, they can usually find it. Part numbers have been changed over the years and sometimes there is no superseded number. The more information you have to give the parts person the better it is. Depending on what you're looking for, you may find it right away or it becomes a research project. Patience is the key here, don't expect quick results. The part number is your friend as well as the item description. There are people on this site who can help with information, but you may have to wait little while. Good Luck!

I've put together a spreadsheet of my parts acquisitions. I create a list for the parts that I want "this time" and date when I send the list to Cat for pricing and availability. The list always has the part number and exact description as it is in the parts book. I also have a second part number column which I use for any parts that are superseded and a column if the description changes. I have a column for the price quoted per unit, the quantity needed, and the extended price (per unit x qty). Finally, I have a date for when I receive them.
That way I can look back over my history and know what was ordered when, in what qty, how much they cost. I also indicate when the parts are used in the machine so I know whether I have inventory or not.
Anal I know but it helps me keep track of everything and avoid duplicate purchases : )

Almost forgot, I also have a couple of columns showing the general area that the part relates to e.g. cooling, main transmission, fuel system, PTO, etc, and one for the precise location e.g. bearing on the rear end of the main transmission countershaft. I need all this information for my poor memory...

That's a smart move Neil. Sounds like something to be in the data base some day if it ever gets working. It could be added to for all machines. It seems time and time again we are trying to remember what someone else had done when the part was not available.

On my Cat online parts store they also have categories for CLASSIC PARTS and also REMAIN PARTS--can usually find what your looking for there.

For some reason I've never been able to get an online parts login working. I tried with Ohio Cat and Milton Cat and the login never worked. Dan, what did you do to get access?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
