Move the small red switch wire that is attached to the terminal with the black wire running to the bolt on the end of the starter...........
Put that red wire on the 24V+ terminal along with the battery cable. Leave the black wire connected to the small solenoid terminal you remove the switch wire from.

This will let your push button send 24V BAT+ to the control terminal of the solenoid. The other control terminal should be grounded to the frame of the starter (your black wire) or commonly is grounded to the starter input stud (as shown on your drawing), so it gets it's ground through the starter brushes.

I think you need only move one small wire.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Basic circuit....
You'd be wise to install a disconnect switch on the battery to ground conductor.

thanks for the replies. The Starter came pre-wired with the solenoid. Did they wire it wrong? CCjersy I will switch the wire and see what happens. Old Magnet could you elaborate a little on the disconnect switch on the battery to ground the conductor.
thanks

OM said in the battery TO ground conductor. Installing a disconnect will isolate the batteries when the machine is off, give you an emergency disconnect, and also keep your one wire alternator from discharging your batteries when it stops on the wrong spot on shut down and sets for a number of days. Good luck, sounds like you have it under control. I'm chasing gremlins in my 922A loader that seems to have been misfired by someone.

From the factory, the ground cable from the batteries went to this switch

on the left side of the dash then on to the ground stud on the starter. There is a separate ground strap from the grounding stud to the frame if I remember correctly.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
