Hi Team,
well I never.
Down here in Australia my late Father was a qualified Boiler Maker and Welder at the time of WW2. He was deemed "Essential Service" and was refused enrolment in any of the Armed Forces--something that broke his heart, especially when some low life sent him some White Feathers, a symbol of cowardice back then to any able bodied person who had not enlisted!!!!!!!!
In the Eighties the Government decided to Honour those who were denied Service in the Armed Forces but Served the Country by their Essential Service Status.
He was so proud of this gesture--so were we.
Among the many jobs he was assigned to, at several establishments, he worked at The Metropolitan Gas Company welding Bren gun Carrier Hulls, so he may have had a hand in manufacturing this rare units hull.
Cheers,
Eddie B.![]()
Several years ago we went with a group of Vets to visit this collection. Was a trip of a lifetime. Sad to see parts of it sold off. The halftrack from the dirty dozen movie was there.
