wondering if any one can tell me what the line is that comes out of the bottom left of the fuel filter housing an over flow maybe ? well on my machine this line has been cut and has a constant drip. What should this be connected to? can I just remove the fitting and replace it with a Plug ? Thanks!
Thanks God Bless

Sounds like you're probably looking at a drip line. Most likely the one from the fuel transfer pump seal. It drips on the ground instead of going into the oil pan. There are 2 seals on the shaft, one next to the fuel pump gears and the other next to the drive gear which is inside the engine. The drip line is a "tattle tale" so you know the seals are leaking and connects to the space between the two seals.

There are also lines in the same area coming down from the fuel filter top air bleed and the injection pump housing. Have had trouble with the bleed screw not shutting off before, might have to polish the valve or find another one to stop it.

Follow the line back to it's source and tell us where it originates. Pictures would help. As would a model on the grader to get the right parts.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Check the routing of the injection valve overflow line. Prior to 1943 the drip line was left open as a tell tale indicator. As of 1943 the overflow line was routed to the transfer pump suction. Do not plug this line.

the model is a 9k4307 I followed the injection valve overflow line and this line T's off of it. Wile I was looking around I noticed another line that is coming out of the left side of the transfer pump should these two be connected? I would show pictures but cant figure out how to upload them?

These two configurations should cover it, with the later being the one where the overflow line ties into the transfer pump suction.

thanks for those diagrams Old Magnet I will still show you some photos ...Neil, I figured I would try one more time with uploading photos and I got it !! The last time I tried I got so frustrated I gave up but for some reason this time I got it down. These are a couple photos of when I first bought it this last fall and I was changing all the oil and filters. Old Magnet I am sure you remember helping me out with that thanks again. She has been running well. I live in western Montana and we have been getting a bunch of snow so I have been using it often

One thing to note, the only drip line that may be connected into the fuel supply line is the one from the injectors. It may not have any of the other lines T-ed into it or you will not be able to bleed the filters or you'll get fuel in the oil pan or in the injection pump oil sump.

here are some photos the one with me pointing to the line corresponds to the other photo of the line that 90's out of the transfer pump and sweeps to the right the line just behind that one with the rubber piece on it comes from the t on the other photo (the injection valve overflow) I hope this makes sense. as you can see she needs a bath!! were these two connected at one time?

Hi Team,
there are several versions of these lines in effect over the years.
One below is from 9K2854-9K4824.

Have also added the drip line modification, OM mentioned.
This scan shows how Cat routed the drain line thru the main body of the transfer pump.
You need to disconnect the drain line at the tee at the top of the filter tower and re-route it with suitable plumbing to to a hole you need to drill and tap to connect the drain line to the fuel transfer pump suction/inlet housing--where the fuel lines comes from the tank.
You will now need to block one leg of the tee fitting where the injector drain was connected to stop fuel issuing when bleeding the filter tower.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

thank you every one you were all very helpful. What I gather from all of the input is that the line coming out of the left side if my transfer pump is a separate drip line. The other line (overflow from the injection valves) never was connected to anything. And if I want to (but don't need to) can plumb the injection overflow line into the transfer pump, on the same side that the main fuel line is tied into. Does that sound correct ?
Thanks God Bless
