I just got a heads-up on a 922B rubber tire loader, no cab..
I went to take a look see at it this afternoon and to retrieve the serial number and check oil and antifreeze both full . That is a good thing..
The number is 94A2609.
What would be the year , engine , etc ????
I was told the machine was parked because the power steering quit working. They were using the loader that morning (was very cold that morning) used the machine for about a hour. started it back up and no power steering. That was ten to fifteen years ago. Least it quit in the shed ,and it has been sitting their mostly out of the weather ever since . Here are a few pictures taken with a cell phone , not the best pictures but , the phone is all I had...LOL...

Build year 1967, with D330 engine.

Very handy little loader, the 4 in 1 bucket is a bonus as well.

The steering is not a difficult fix, you'll probably spend more time getting the brakes back in order.

Buddy,
The Sn shows as a 1967 which has a,1 ½ cu yd. bucket, torque converter drive, power shift, power steering, four wheel drive, rear wheel steering. Caterpillar D330 engine, 80 Flywheel H.P. . Weight 16,600 lbs.

The 922B was a newer model of the 922. With a new engine: 4 1/2” bore and 5 ½ stroke, naturally aspirated engine similar to those used in the D4D tractors and the number 112E Motor grader is now used in the 922B Traxcavator.

Dual brake drum system: has a new air actuated hydraulic brake arrangements with separate air and hydraulic system for each axle. Larger wheel breaks sixteen inch diameter brake drums, three inch wide brake shoes and larger wheel cylinders were used. It also, appears to have the multi-purpose bucket which is good deal.

Have a 922b 59A model here. After being brought back from the weeds, complete engine overhaul etc. the steering quit. So it's been sitting. In the mean time, we got a running 944 loader. After several years of use, the steering quit on that one too. When I say quit, I mean the steering wheel goes around with no resistance and nothing else moves.

So that problem is in the steering box. The "follower" pin that engages the worm gear turned by the steering wheel shaft is mounted in a bearing so it rolls in the crank that twists the horizontal shaft running across to go through the frame on the left side of the machine. This pin and bearing assembly is available from CAT only (if at all). Luckily we had another one in a parts machine which we were able to use to fix the 944.

Still haven't gotten to the 922 yet. :embarassed:

Maybe the machine you are looking at has some other problem.

The loaders of that era were not very powerful diggers (0r at least ours aren't) CAT seems to have designed them primarily to load loose material on hard surfaces. Hard digging or boggy ground are not going to result in a very productive machine.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
