Pushing back snow for local farmer with the D4. Had 1/4" plexi-glass on left side and front of cab, kept pretty warm. Nothing like traction for action!lol

Great pics-I heard lake effect snow at 3" per hour up your way. Seeing your tracks and undercarriage packed with snow, are your tracks loosened to avoid popping or have you got snow tracks, home made or otherwise?

Thx for posting-

Hi Bernie, the tracks were somewhat loose but they did snap some, backing up helped and going down the road also. Some place the snow wasn't pushed back far enough from the previous snows the melted and refroze so they couldn't get pushed backed with there farm tractors. Some driveways had five foot drifts.

Snow can pack in the track links and when it gets bad enough, it pops and snaps as the sprocket teeth crack the icy compacted snow. Relief holes can be made on the pads to let it push out instead of cracking.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I remember that from living south of Buffalo on New York's Southern Tier!
Pushing snow is fun for the first week, after that it gets old!

Heard last week that it is way way too hot in Australia!
Here its way way too cold!

All you people out there braving the Snow and Ice.

And here in Oregon, we currently have this: http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2014/01/coast_wildfires_wind_steep_ter.html#incart_river

So far this has been about the driest and coldest winter since I moved to eastern Oregon 20 years ago, very little snow so far but more below zero mornings than I can remember.

Where did you live in the southern tier? I live about 30 miles east of Binghamton where we have 8 months of winter and 4 months of bad skiing
