I mistakenly placed this on the "sale" side of the BB.
My question is about converting a 9U to direct start. I am wondering if this is a good idea or not and any advice or testimonials would be appreciated.
Also, I notice there is no discussion about glow plugs. I understand that this engine has precombustion chambers. Discussion so far is about the starter and compatibility with flywheel gearing, which is good, but how do you get the engine to start once you get it cranking?

Takes the same factory glow plug type pre-combustion chambers as the D4.
Lots of D6 direct start units were built by Cat and lots more have been converted. I have both on D4's and D6. Hardly ever even need the glow plugs in California climate........as far as cold starts KoO in the great white north has no problem starting in sub-zero weather.....had lots of problems with pony motors.
