I have renewed the coil ,points,condenser,carbon brushes and springs,leads and caps and plugs.I still get a weak spark.Do you think that it needs to be remagnetized? Any suggestions?

Seems like you've tried everything else:D
Loss of magnetism will cause weak spark....also are you checking spark by observing spark plug gap???......if so, what spark plugs are you using?

Hello OLD MAGNET
I have tried a few types of plugs,using Champion plugs.I have rotated the mag on the bench using a battery drill.It has to be rotated quite fast to get a good spark.Set point gap to 015". Looks like weak magnets.

Lots of problems with Champion plugs......that's why I asked. Get your self some NGK plugs or Autolite seem to be ok. Yes, I'd go ahead and get re-magnetized.

Could you tell me the part number of the NGK/ AUTOLITE plugs that are used for a WICO mag as fitted to a 933g Traxcavator?

Hello Martyn, I am using Autolite#46 plugs in the pony of my D2/3J. I fired up the pony and main for the 1st time in over a month. The pony fired up with one pull of the rope. The deposits on the electrodes look good too; light tan color with no oil or soot on them. Give them a try. Hope this helps.

I show a NGK A6 or Ab-6 (18MM) for the D320 in the 933G
Could not find an Autolite equivalent that is a non-resistor plug.
Do not use a resister type plug.
The Autolite #46 is a resister type plug.
Even the original J-8 Champions have been replaced by an RJ-8 resister type.
Maybe a little more research would turn up something if you want to spend the time.

there are some points and condenser replacement electronic modules that people have been using for Onan twins and single cylinder engines. Pertronix is one brand name. There are also modules that use a magnetic pickup to trigger the spark that can be adapted to most anything you can get a magnet on.
I'm not sure how useful these are on a mag that fires the 2 cylinders individually. Most of the Onans fire both plugs each time because each plug is on one end of the coil secondary.
To go full electronic ignition, you could use the old mag as the trigger and distributer and have an external coil,,,,,IF you are willing to put or already have a battery system on the tractor.
I would be wondering how much voltage the old cap and rotor could stand:eek:
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Actually, I can't see any reason why a D2 pony wouldn't run with an Onan type coil setup if the points in the magneto are stout enough to keep firing it. The firing order is the same as the Onan: 360 degrees and 720/0 degrees. Onan just fires an extra time at top of the exhaust stroke. There's no need for a distributor at all, but the Onan coil is a little costly.
I'd avoid the use of resistor plugs with any magneto. Mags don't make the hot spark that electronics make and the resistance may force the spark to seek an easier way out, like through the coil wrapping.
