Old Magnet,
I've perused your web pages concerning direct electric start conversions. You list the various starters and I think the 42 MT would be the way to go in 24 volt. My question is, which 42 MT?? I've done a search on 'em and the various part numbers boggle the brain:eek: . Is there a particular part number to look for:confused: ????
Thanks,
Paul

I don't know why they have so many part numbers??? any clockwise rotation unit will do. Doesn't matter what drive end housing or starter drive gear as they will require changing anyway.

O M, A lot of rigs use that 42 MT starter and the part numbers probably come from which application they fit. I've found 'em with 11 tooth and 12 tooth gears. I'd assume either of those would work then as long as it's a RH rotation? Or will the end and gear still have to be changed? If so, to what?

The RH helical starter drive can be obtained here:
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Delco-Remy-Start...0157376811QQtcZphoto
or from Component Parts Co. Newcastle, Ca
under part # 3-293 11 tooth or 3-293A 12 tooth (about $90)
If you can, get the 11 tooth that matches original. 12 tooth will also work.
The drive end housing required for the #42MT starter going in to a D4 /D6 (obtained from CPC) is a # CPC#51-1112.
This is all covered in the sources section of the starter conversion info.

When you by a starter, all your buying is the motor. None of the standard starters have a usable drive or drive end housings for these conversions.....unless it is specifically set up for the application.

Thanks Old Magnet, I didn't see those numbers when I looked at your page. That was what I needed. I didn't know that the mount and pinion were purchased separately, I guess that was what caused my confusion.

Now I'm getting confused,
I got a CAT 42MT Clockwise rotation starter and switched to the 11 tooth pinion as listed. It came with a SAE No. 3 nose housing.
Do I still need to order the # CPC#51-1112 ?
Thanks,
Muzz

Yes, SAE #3 is the bolting and flange configuration but you need the 145 degree throat indexing.
