hello all, my name is john monser, after much thought I have decided to move my story from the heavy equipment forum to the ACMOC site. If any of you would like to know more about the person u are reading about u can check out my website at monserandsons.com The reason for my move is the age of my machine. Based on my research I feel more enthusiasm here regarding my newest toy don't get me wrong, I learned MORE IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS on the HEF than I have in the last year. I just belong here. long story short twelve years ago I took a job as a carpenters apprentice. One of our jobs was building a campground. My teacher/mentor bought a 1952 d68U to clear the land and build the road. First day on job, helped teacher jump start machine with 510 JD hoe(pony didn't run). That memory Will never leave me. 6 years ago I started bugging him to let me (work it off). After a ten year (rest) I paid a local respectable man to bring it (home) for me. This was March 2013. Two weeks later I got home from a job at 4pm with 10 gallons of motor oil and 10 gallons of gear oil. Working through the night around 5pm on Sunday I got her running by dragging it with my JD350(should've used the JD310d).It was EPIC! I was satisfied with(sound/oil pressure/movement)and have since gotten rate into it! I will be posting pictures of my project and will definitely be seeking advice as well as offering it.(I only offer advice When I know what Im talking about and never argue with anybody that thinks they do). Im in the process of gathering some parts and eager to post my progress. I want to give a special thanks to OLD MAGNET for taking note of my story on HEF and giving me PRICELESS advice despite knowing nothing about me.

Answer is both yes and no. The 5V50001-up is the Industrial Engine version of the D318. It will work for most parts but anything below the oil pan flange is different than the 8U/9U and some bolt ons will be different.

The pony motor is pretty much the same but some bolt on's will be different also.

Thank you. Lots of success comparing part numbers and identifying differences. Usually oversized pistons are marked on top, is this the case with Caterpillar pony engines?

Not always, some go by part number, some are stamped, some have nothing, depending on source of parts and whether they are turned down from one big oversize.

If the bushings are free (almost never are) stick a screwdriver in the port and pry against the bushing.

If they are stuck I usually compress the spring, remove the keepers and pull the valves so you can wail away with whatever it takes to move them. Usually a piece of pipe will work without buggering things up.

I have been able to successfully order some parts from the regal corp. On another note a genuine delco remy mt50 for a cat d343 has been ordered for me as a gift. When it gets here I hope its CW rotation and lever housing is correct. What is worst case here? Can rotation be changed? no refunds and coming from Montana.
