Hi Team,
here is an article from the "Caterpillar World" magazine published for Caterpillar employees and friends.

This article is from Issue No2 1988. It is celebrating the D10 turning 10 years and tells the story of its research and beginings.

Have fingers crossed that pages load in order--they are numbered 1-6 for your convenience.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi, EDB.
Thank you, EDB. That is a good read. I knew about the origins of the idea and how it was tested with the little garden tractor from Eric Orlemann's Caterpillar Chronicle but those pages have more background. Thanks again.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks for posting Ed B. I think i have some other Cat publications with some different pics than have been typically posted and recycled over the years. Caterpillar used to produce another magazine that was monthly called "The Dealer" and it to has had some good stuff on D10,s in it also from the development years. 1 complete folder i have is from a Waugh & Josephson salesman and it has a mountain of D10 stuff in it, a prized piece in my collection. Something that didn,t take off till many years later that i found in that folder was an option on the D10, the dual tilt blade.

I fondly remember having a day off school in 1978 to go to W & J to see the first D10 in AU, that machine was delivered to Bloomfield Collieries from memory.

I first saw the remaining pilot tractor out the front of building SS in 1992 and was fortunate enough to get a trip to Conexpo in 2011 and visit the factory again for the first time 19 years.

The article states it was done with 300 man hours of Engineering time.
That is amazing to think that elevated modular component and operator layout was completed in such a short time!

It was 300 man years with a man year = 1750 hours so 525000 man hours!!! Some serious time went into it, a shame they don,t spend that sort of time developing stuff these days!!

Hi, Drujinin.
Methinks you may have a touch of dyslexia. 300 man YEARS - based on 1,750 hours per year. That is just a tad more than 300 man HOURS.

Hi, Gavin84W.
C'mon, M8. give with the goodies. Until, as Swishy would say, it HURTS.
