I to
ok these pictures today. I am wondering who the manufacturer was and what size Cat would be needed to utilize the scraper properly.

That is a Wooldridge Scraper. Same as we have. I believe it is about 18 yards capacity. Our Diesel Seventy Five loads it well with no help. I would think that a D7 9G or equivalent would be fine. Maybe a D6 9U, if it was really peppy, might work too.
Here are some pictures and a video link or two of ours.
Pete.

Thank you for the information and pictures Pete. Looking in the can of the old scraper, it seems to be in good condition. The tires are shot. Is it hard to find rubber for these? Is there any value is selling one other than for scrap iron?

Ours has 20.00 wheels. Luckily all four rear tires were good on ours when we got it. The front tires, however, were only about half there. I happened to have ten 12.00 x 20.00 heavy duty highway tires which came off of one of our FWD trucks laying around.
Garlic Mom and I quickly swapped the rags off the front of our scraper for two of the 12.00 x 20.00 truck tires and have been running those with no trouble. All it took was a bar, some Palmolive soap and a bunch of pushing, pulling, kicking and swearing, but we got the swap done.
I'd be surprised to see any of these off brand scrapers go for much more than scrap. I think ours has a tag on it with a shipping weight of about 18,000 pounds, although I may be mistaken about that. If it really does weigh nine tons, I'd say the value is probably somewhere between $900.00 and $1,500.00.
Now if you want to use it, you'll have to procure the tires and you'd probably subtract that cost from the price you'd pay. Unfortunately, the scrappies who you'll be competing against will probably still offer the $900.00 to $1,500.00, depending upon their mood.
Whereabouts in California are you? You can see from my profile that I'm in Bakersfield. If you are ever nearby, you're welcome to stop in and make a few rounds with our Woodridge. I wouldn't mind checking out your stuff whenever I'm in your area, too.
Pete.

657bruce,
Garlic Pete has it right…it’s a Wooldridge without any doubt. This one appears to be smaller then G. Pete’s if it is you should have no trouble pulling with a D79G and or a D6 U as G. Pete has said.
If you can’t find the SN plate, one can measure up the scraper bowl to find out the capacity in Cu.Yd’s, then maybe we could come up with the model and size. The smaller scrapers were referred to as the “Boiling Bowl” scrapers with a “BB” prefix in the model number. The larger scrapers took on the name as the “Terra Clipper”, with the TC in the model prefix. At one time the early scrapers where nicked named the “Haystack Wooldridge” because the structure over the bowl give the appearance of a haystack, as well as some other scrapers by other manufactures.
As I have said in an earlier post on the same subject with G. Pete’s scraper the sheave block on the back of the apron was to low and in some cases filled up with dirt and was very hard on dump cables.
See if you can come up some numbers and maybe we can get this little closer as to what size it is. Then you can buy a caterpillar tractor to go with it. LOL! Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the information. I decided it wasn't worth it to buy the scraper. I wouldn't have enough use for it to justify fixing it up. Pete, I live near Paso Robles.
