I hope you have friends or family that know their way around. It can be a dangerous place after dark these days. Really sad.
If you are coming all the way from South Carolina, drive up to Woodland CA to the Heidrick Ag History Museum. The Holt, Best and Caterpillar stuff on display there is outstanding! Well worth your while. These is a museum in Stockton that has some Cat stuff but I have never gotten there yet but I am told it doesn't come close to the Heidrick collection.

Mike, I grew-up here and the changes are great. I walked and rode my bike anywhere from downtown to Hammer lane and never thought anything about it except the heat! Now days I'm not so sure. My nephews used to play a version of "punch buggy" only when they saw the trigger vehicle they said DRIVE BY!! and quickly ducked down.
Sounds like you're in good hands and you picked a great time to visit weather wise.
The Haggin Museum is well worth a visit; although, for sheer number of tractors and trucks The Hedrick Ag History Center has much more on display. I spent an afternoon at the Haggin Museum and did not make it through all of the material they had on display. http://www.hagginmuseum.org/about.shtml
There is also an Ag Machinery Collection at UC Davis. I understand is quite extensive or at least it was. I am not generally in the area, and therefore have not looked into it further. A very dated web site: http://tractors.ucdavis.edu/visiting.htm
