Fresh Start on Cat Ten Engine

I moved the Ten Engine I was working on to a holding pattern and rolled the spare engine out of the back room and proceeded to take it apart. I found where some work had been done. The valves looked much better in the seat areas. The pistons are .040 over and appear to be in good shape. The pins are tight but need checking. There was a drag while turning the crank over. The rod bearings looked okay but when I removed the crank it didn't take long to see the problem. The rear bearing had come apart. The crank may get by with a polishing and replacing the main bearings looks like the worst issue.

I believe my best bet is to use this engine and find some Main bearings and rings. The other engine had to many problems.

Any thoughts, suggestions or recomendations ?????
Thanks.....Bill

Cysco,
Wow, very neat and organized shop, and a Coke, no beer. Something's wrong with this photo. :-)

no dirt floor, no open/missing doors, no sparrow's nests, no smashed walls and windows, no stacks of parts, no tools strewn about, no oil or grease stains anywhere......

What sort of a man's shed is this :)

PS wish it were mine:thumb:

I think Cysco must be a Surgeon or Dentist in his or her spare time! I do envy your ability to keep track of parts and tools, and neat shop, I'll show you a photo of my current workshop, you may not need a napkin for your Coke can.
regards
Mike

Mike, you are a man of obvious class. Red wine with your 2 Ton. What cheese do you recommend? Ray

Guys,
I learned to pick up things while spending the last thirty years build homes.......have you ever stepped on a nail.....man that hurts !!!! But I am glad you like my shop as it took me several years to build. As far as a hole in the wall....that piece of sheathing behind the drill press is hiding one. The hydraulic press sent a piece of steel flying through it while I was pressing out bearings.
I started outside working on old cars so I know how hard that is to do.......I think I still have a few gravel marks on my back.... :)

But do ya see anything amiss on the Ten parts.......I am trying my best to get it done before show season starts but things keep cropping up making it difficult.

Have a good evening....Bill
