That's a good one. And I bet it works good to. Give's me some idea to use on my pony motor that I have removed to repair a cracked block. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hi OM,
top job of design and manufacture on your part there OM.
I'm sure a lot of pony crankshafts finish up being over stressed during these operations and ultimately break as a result, it is imperative to support the flywheel/crankshaft to put as little bending stress on them as possible.
I'm sure also even though a torque is not given, the fact that a half nut is used is the clue to a low torque being needed here, with clean tapers a high torque should not be necessary.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi edb,
Gotcha....torquing is a loose term here.......what I was after is a fixed hold so that you can get a genuine feel for tightening without slippage. Way better than letting the old air impact wrench rattle away without knowing where you are at:D

Hey OM, that is a great looking holder. Mine is somewhat simpler... I have a small pry bar that is about 14" long and has an apostrophe looking head on it. I just lay the tool down atop the trans cover, point the apostrophe up, slide it into the rope notch and torque away. It works VERY well, but, as the direction of tightening or loosening changes, you must move the bar to the opposite side
Bob.

Yes, I know there are all kinds of improvised methods.....got the flywheels with busted flanges to prove it:D
.....in this case the floor plates and cover were out. Wrestled the clutch out of the split cover version with the pony flywheel in place........doesn't work without loosing teeth....in spite of the manual picture and instructions:rolleyes:
at least I couldn't make it work. Decided to pull flywheel for new replacement clutch and didn't feel like putting cover....or floor plates back on to improvise. Also the sucker was on really tight....air wrench job no doubt. Now I'm fixed for all occasions:D
