Aww. That takes all the fun out of meeting Cat heads all over the country searching for new rails or spending 5000 million hours welding the old ones up on the ol tombstone. What next?

$1,700 sounds like $600 more than a few years ago. CAT is pretty good at raising prices to reflect the devaluation of the USD. D2/D3 chains have always been available; the D2 rollers are not. You need to check the diameter of the bolt hole in the CAT Classic chain or you will be drilling all your track pads. If I remember correctly, the early D3 was 1/2" and the later 9/16".

There are cheaper chains out there aftermarket. I'd stick to Italian and avoid Chinese.

Eric. If you get to the point where you are going to order an undercarriage or parts thereof for your D2, Robert Price is the guy to talk to in Northern CA. Send me a PM and I'll get you his contact info when you're ready to go.

They are available in Aus, Italian made with a larger bolt (half inch I thnk). I believe they may be the same as those used on cane cutters in Aus. Au$1200 plus 10 percent tax per side, plus delivery, plus bolts etc. Pads from Italy are also available (6 month lead time) but I fainted before the dealer told me the price!

I was also told ITR has a matching chain as does a (?) Korean manufacture. ITR dealers also have D4 rails (@1600ea) and rollers (@240 each).

I guess US rails/roller prices will be much lower given that D2 values are about half current Aus prices.
