Here is a few pics of some jobs I have done recently. the big yellow generator is a CAT motor with a 35 volt starting system which I have never seen before. The V12 Cummins is a KTA1710 and is about 28.5 litre. The small Cummins engine is an M11STC motor out of a 50 tonne excavator that had blown a hole straight through both sides of the block. so I stripped out an M11 celect (electronic) and built one engine out of the good bits remaining from the two engines. The old D8R belongs to S.E.Davies, I have just finished building both final drives for "vintage dave" the D8H68A belongs to the rough gang and was a fair bit of work, I had to make a good torque converter out of two and a half lumps, strip off the flywheel and back casing as the engine mount was damaged on the right hand side but worst of all the main chassis frame had sheered through and was a fair big welding job. The little track shovel is a 931 ( japanese ) I had to swap over various final drive/ track frame parts as instructed by John Foster. The picture of the dumper in a difficult position is a Moxy thats tipped over.

I forgot to say that most of these jobs have had to be done in some real down pours of rain, its just about rained every day for the last 6 weeks, when that Sun starts to shine I will be ready for it.

Tony,

I've been busy working on my step daughters new house (tiling kitchen etc), but yesterday I fitted the handles onto the CCU (see pictures).

I've having to modify the outboard RH handle, as it was fouling the fuel tank (see pictures). Otherwise, everything else is OK.

The picture of the 68A tractor, does it say Bovis on the rear of the fuel tank?

The fuel tank on the D8H says JARVIS (Tiptree) this tank was taken off a knackerd tractor at K.J.Service (heads of the valleys) Both the left and right side of the main chassis has now been torn through ,plated /welded this tractor often works 60/70 hours a week, the rough gang drive it like they stole it, its a marvel how the old banger sticks the hammer it gets, but they always decelerate the engine speed on any gear change, the D6 looks great , dont forget to sort out the hitch pin.

Hi tc,
Pretty amazing the stuff you do out there in the field....and muck.
I'm sure it rivals any fancy shop.
How are you ever going to retire if you keep working like a dog?
Might try this technique for access to some of those critters LOL

....ahhhh, maybe thats the old 8R. That upright at the front of the cab looked a bit like the mount for the loader arms.

The loading shovel by the 931 is another 931 ,I stripped the frames /tracks and sprockets off both of the loaders, then stuffed all the good bits onto the best loader , building one half good banger out of 2 old knackers.

Terex kit I must say I have always loved, great engines G.M. Cummins Leyland, good gearbox's easy enough to fiddle with ,plus they leaked like a busted fridge, I could always find a pile of work patching up these old bangers, I would love to buy/own a small twin power scraper like a TS.8 or TS.14, The other day I sold my Diamond T 980 Tank transporter to a pal that has the spare time to work on the truck , I need something ready to roll or close to it, as it is rare for me to get a day off, anyhow things are looking up as today I landed a job to sort a 2,280 hp MTU engine, all that horse power going to be fixed by a Donkey!!!!!
